Kevin Clark

    Kevin Clark is a proven leader with extensive experience scaling diagnostics companies from inception to lucrative exit on a global scale.  He has successfully ushered 126 products through the FDA approval process.  His career includes the development of a diagnostics company, serving as COO and CEO.  He sourced investors and sold that company to one of the largest life sciences companies in the world.  He took the company public, managed multinational operations and brokered mergers and acquisitions, all while developing, manufacturing and selling products that required FDA approval.

    As CEO of ERBA Diagnostics, Clark brought the company to profitability following losses in nine consecutive quarters. Among his accomplishments was the sale of controlling interest of IVAX Diagnostics (now known as ERBA Diagnostics) to TransAsia Bio-Medicals, the largest diagnostics company in India. He consummated private investment of public equity (PIPE) of $30 million in common stock and warrants to grow ERBA Diagnostics through mergers and acquisitions.  He managed facilities across the U.S. and internationally in England, the Czech Republic, Italy, Russia, Brazil, and France.

    Prior to that he served six years as COO of IVAX Diagnostics, the parent company of ImmunoVision, Inc., which he founded in 1987 and sold to IVAX Corporation in 1995.

    During his 18 years at ImmunoVision/IVAX Diagnostics, he was directly responsible for the successful development and clinical trials of 18 diagnostic test kits.

    He was Executive VP and Founding Member of the Arkansas Biotechnology Association and has served on the Board for the University of Arkansas Technology Development Foundation and Arkansas BioVentures.

Dr. Qinwei Shi

    Dr. Qinwei Shi, a trained medical physician, received his PhD in clinical biochemistry at the University of Toronto in 1991 and completed Post Doctoral work in the Department of Genetics at The Hospital For Sick Children, Toronto. Dr. Shi is a founder of ZBX Corporation. Dr. Shi has been responsible for the invention and continual improvement of the AdexusDx rapid diagnostic test system as well as managing all aspects of the scientific affairs, assay development and manufacturing at the Corporation. In his career, Dr. Shi has managed programs of discovery and development in the fields of molecular biology, protein engineering, development of immunoassays, designing and producing diagnostic reagents and diagnostic platform development. He is an author or co-author of 17 peer reviewed papers, 27 abstracts and two book chapters. Additionally, he is the sole inventor or co-inventor of 19 US patents and an additional US patent pending.

vicki thompson
  • Vicki ThompsonDirector of Product Development

    Vicki Thompson brings 21 years of experience in the autoimmune diagnostics industry to NOWDiagnostics.  Her knowledge included process purification, quality control, and research & development.  She has assisted in the development of production processes, technology transfer of diagnostics kit production, and improving quality control processes. She advanced from production scientist to director in a short period of time and was responsible for production processes including native antigen production, antibody purification, and material conjugations.  Vicki graduated with a B. Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Arkansas.

Michele Roe

    Michele Roe brings 10+ years of quality and laboratory experience acquired from working in an ISO certified diagnostic facility as well as academic laboratories.  She has played lead roles in quality control and data analysis, validation of quality system protocols, and production. She has also been active in research and development and training.

    Michele obtained a B.Sc. in Animal Science from the University of Arkansas followed by a M.Sc. in Cell and Molecular Biology.

Duane Poorman

    Duane Poorman brings 25 years of experience in the highly regulated diagnostic and biopharmaceutical industries to the NOWDiagnostics team. Over the course of his career, he has led teams in development, manufacturing, regulatory, quality, and management during all phases of company development from startup through growth and maturity. His teams have implemented and maintained FDA and ISO compliant systems for manufacturing, quality management, document control, training, and material control. He has extensive experience with inspections and audits by regulatory bodies, qualified persons, notified bodies, clients, and internal audit teams. In his previous posting, Duane directed his manufacturing team through a successful first FDA pre-approval inspection for a novel biopharmaceutical. Duane holds a B. Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Arkansas.

Jeff Ellis

    Jeff Ellis has spent his entire career in Sales and Sales Management.  His background covers the full spectrum in the Medical Diagnostics Industry–from point of care medical devices to laboratory capital equipment in both large and small companies.  For the past 10 years, Jeff progressively moved into positions of increased responsibility at one of the world’s leaders in rapid diagnostic testing—Alere North America.  Jeff served as Vice President of Sales for Alere’s Hospital Division, Vice President of Marketing for the Alere Cardiac Division and then transitioned to running the US Sales Division for one of Alere’s partners, Chembio Diagnostics.  Jeff is a Certified Sales Trainer and Certified Sales Coach, and comes to us with many years of experience in building, coaching and leading sales and marketing teams.

Gianni Furino

    Gianni Furino’s career includes the responsibilities of Sales & Management in International IVD markets.

    His 30 years of experience in the healthcare market spans a broad scope of businesses, from multinational corporations to startups.

    His extensive background in Research and Development includes creating and implementing new products for strategic markets and supporting corporate objectives. He developed international distributor channels, and directed numerous sales teams and independent representatives.

    Gianni Furino performed market surveys and competitive analysis to develop viable strategies, and implemented strategic tactics and sales actions. He engaged new product launches, integrated product acquisitions into existing channels, and created new networks within these fields.

    As International Sales & Marketing Director of Delta Biologicals, a subsidiary of Ivax Diagnostics Inc., he expanded his range of action within the group, participating directly with important sales negotiations, overseeing all International and European key customers, and taking the company public.

    In 2008, he was the co-founder of AXA Diagnostics S.r.l., an Italian company that developed and produced a full walkway platform (known as SkyLAB 752®) for IVD tests, marketed through distributors in Europe and USA.

Jeremy Wilson

    Jeremy Wilson has a history of creating significant shareholder value and leading high-performing teams in strategy, M&A, finance, technology and marketing. His 20 years of experience spans a broad scope of businesses from multinational corporations to startups and a wide range of industries including retail, advertising, technology and venture capital. In the last two years, Wilson has founded or co-founded ten companies.  Currently, Jeremy Wilson is the CEO and Managing Partner of NewRoad Capital Partners, an operator-focused, demand-driven alternative asset manager with venture capital and growth equity funds focused on various industries such as retail, supply chain, consumer healthcare, and tech enabled services.

    During his tenure as COO and CAO of Rockfish, one of the most recognized digital marketing agencies, the company achieved compounded annual growth in revenue of over 65%. Mr. Wilson was instrumental in guiding Rockfish from startup to multi-state agency providing services to such notable clients as Walmart, Sam’s Club, J&J, P&G, Cisco and EA Sports. In 2011, he led the company’s acquisition by WPP, a global leader in marketing services. Prior to Rockfish, he served as senior director for Walmart financial services, where he led product development, M&A, strategy, credit/prepaid cards, mortgage lending, investment services, and money orders/money transfers. Mr. Wilson also served as head of investor relations for Walmart and Brinker International as well as head of domestic corporate cash management for Walmart.

Jerry Gallwas

    Jerry Gallwas is an analytical chemist by education with a special interest in medical device instrumentation for clinical use. After a stint in the military running the chemistry section of a 300 bed station hospital clinical laboratory, Jerry Gallwas joined Beckman Instruments in 1964. At that time, management had visions of entering the healthcare field with a family of clinical analyzers and consumables. He was a founding member of a team that established Beckman Diagnostics, and with the availability of microprocessor technology in 1976, they designed the company’s first automated clinical analyzer, the ASTRA. It ran the eight most requested laboratory tests in a minute anytime of the day or night and took the market by storm. Subsequently, Jerry Gallwas established and managed the laboratory information systems and quality control businesses. He then went onto serve as Manager of Strategic Planning as sales subsidiaries were set up around the world.

    Beckman Diagnostics grew to over $300 Million by 1982 leading the company to be merged with SmithKline Corporation for $1,086 Million. During those years, Jerry Gallwas was active in the laboratory medicine community and served as president and board member of what is now the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI). In the 1970s Congress gave the mandate to FDA for regulation of the IVD industry the result of which is the current 510(k) registration system. Jerry Gallwas spent months in Washington DC negotiating on behalf of the industry as the regulatory system emerged. He retired from Beckman after 30 years of service as Director of Program Management overseeing $50M in R&D projects to consult for small medical device companies and the NIH SBIR commercialization program. He recently retired after 22 years as a board member of the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation and currently serves on the boards of three medical device companies, including NOWDiagnostics (NOWDx).

Dr. John B. Harley

    Dr. John B. Harley has over 35 years of experience in immunology, genetic research and clinical practice. He has made important contributions in the immunochemistry of autoimmunity and the genetics of autoimmune diseases, especially systemic lupus erythematosus. He is Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine at the University of Cincinnati where he holds the David Glass Endowed Chair and is Director of the Center for Autoimmune Genomics and Etiology (CAGE) at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Harley is recognized as one of America’s leading experts on autoimmune diseases and systemic lupus erythematosus.

    Dr. Harley’s extensive background includes various positions at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center from 1982 to 2010. In the Department of Medicine, his positions included Chief of Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology Section and Vice Chair for Research. Dr. Harley was appointed George Lynn Cross Research Professor in 1999, and held the James R. McEldowney Chair in Immunology and Professor of Medicine beginning in 1992.

    Dr. John B. Harley has served the medical research community in various capacities, especially for the National Institutes of Health and the US Department of Veterans Affairs, throughout his career. He was an Independent Director at ERBA Diagnostics, Inc. (previously, IVAX Diagnostics Inc.) from 2001 to 2014. In 1981 and 1982, Dr. Harley was Postdoctoral Fellow in Rheumatology with the Arthritis Branch of the National Institute of Arthritis, Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, National Institute of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, and an officer in the US Public Health Service. Before that he was a research fellow at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund in London and a resident in Medicine at Yale University. Dr. Harley graduated with both MD and PhD degrees from the University of Pennsylvania.
